Can you conquer Cruella?
"It's not called 'Cruella' for nothing". Just as the name implies, cyclists will be put to the challenge as they ride over some of the highest and most scenic roads in the East Bay. The cruelness of Cruella lies not in any one climb, but in the sum of all its parts - no climb alone is too great of challenge, but the timing and combination of the climbs unfailingly loads up in the legs, culminating with the final climb to the ‘Double Junction’ that bites through the muscle down to the bone.
Open to men and women, The Cruella Challenge offers plenty of climbing including Mt. Diablo, Pig Farm, the 3 Bears, Wildcat Canyon, Skyline and Pinehurst totaling approximately 4,000 ft of elevation gain for the Metric Century (62 miles) and approximately 8,500 ft for the Full Century (100 miles)!
To keep riders finely tuned and going strong, Danville Bike will be at the start/finish to provide mechanical support along with Yellow Wood Coffee & Tea to serve up that morning cup of joe. Not to mention all the well-timed rest stops fully stocked with Hammer Nutrition Products, fruit and assorted goodies, and full SAG/mechanical support on both routes provided by Sports Basement, Traction Bikes and Cycle Sports.
For Full Century riders, the ultimate challenge is to tackle the ‘Double Junction’ – a second trip up to the Junction of Mt. Diablo at mile 90. NEW THIS YEAR: Century Riders who conquer the ‘Double Junction’ will receive a commemorative medal, hand made from recycled bike parts by Resource Revival.
All riders are rewarded with a well deserved BBQ at the finish, provided by Lawrence’s Walnut Creek Meat Co.
We have some outstanding sponsors and community partners helping to make this event a success including, Heffernan Insurance Brokers and its Wellness@Work Program, Danville Bike and Sports Basement.
And if all that isn't enough, then ride for a cause! A portion of the net proceeds will be donated to the Bay Area Chapter of Girls on the Run, a non-profit program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running.
